ガイアナ共和国生まれのイギリス人アーティスト、フランク・ボウリング（Frank Bowling）の作品集。本書は、2023年に西ハリウッドのギャラリー「Hauser & Wirth」で開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。豊かで美しい図版に加え、折り込みのページで作品を詳細に取り上げている。

イギリス人美術史家のドロシー・プライス（Dorothy Price）によるエッセイも収録し、イギリス人アーティストであるジョゼフ・マロード・ウィリアム・ターナー（Joseph Mallord William Turner）と対話に焦点が当てられている。「言語に頼らない身振りでの筆のはらいと、果てしなく広大な水平線が、時代を超えてこの芸術家たちを繋げている」と説く。加えて、18世紀以降存在する黒人であることと崇高さとの結びつきを通じ、作者が「新しい崇高（a new sublime）」を発明したことを探求している。プラスチックの蜘蛛、医療器具、スプレー缶のノズルなどの拾得物を取り込むことで抽象の歴史との対話において重要な役割を果たすことを示している。

The book is lavishly illustrated and includes foldouts of artwork details.

It features an essay from art historian Dorothy Price, which focuses on the dialogue between Bowling’s and Turner’s work.

Price notes that “gestural sweeps and vast horizon lines bind these artists across time.”

Bowling’s invention of “a new sublime” is subsequently explored through the link between Blackness and the sublime that has existed since the eighteenth century.

She also notes that the incorporation of found objects—plastic spiders, hospital equipment, and the nozzle from a spray can among them—plays a key role in Bowling’s dialogue with the history of abstraction.
