ONE PICTURE BOOK TWO #32: BENT TREE by Mark Steinmetz [SPECIAL EDITION]

アメリカ人フォトグラファー、マーク・シュタインメッツ（Mark Steinmetz）の作品集。アメリカの出版社「NAZRAELI PRESS」が手がけるプリント付き作品集シリーズ『ONE PICTURE BOOK TWO』の第32巻。

全100タイトルをもって完結した『ONE PICTURE BOOK』のアップグレード版である本シリーズ『ONE PICTURE BOOK TWO』は、装丁、サイズともにリニューアル。各タイトル500部限定発行、約127x178mm（約5x7インチ）のサイン入りプリントが付属し、前作と同様100タイトルで完結予定。

本作『Bent Tree』は、作者が『ONE PICTURE BOOK』シリーズより刊行した第2作目。作者が1990年代半ばから20年以上にわたって撮影した、奇妙な形に曲がっている木の写真16点で構成されている。ジョージア州アテネの自宅から歩いてすぐのところにあるこの木は、葛野原の中に独立して立っており、その横には線路が通っている。作者は、さまざまな年、季節、時間帯、天候の中でこの木を撮影した。現在では、新しい住宅の裏庭に囲まれ、その勇ましく孤立した姿は失われてしまった。

Bent Tree is Mark Steinmetz’s second contribution to our One Picture Book Two series. The book comprises 16 photographs of a peculiarly curved tree that Steinmetz photographed for over twenty years, beginning in the mid-1990s. The tree is a short walk from his home in Athens, Georgia, and stands on its own in a field of kudzu; a set of railroad tracks run alongside it. Steinmetz photographed the tree through different years, seasons, times of day, and types of weather. Today, the backyards of new infill homes crowd up against it, and its seemingly brave, solitary posturing has been lost.

Mark Steinmetz is a Guggenheim Fellow, and his work is included in the permanent collections of many important institutions, including Museum of Modern Art, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

One Picture Book Two: an upgraded, upscaled follow-up to NAZRAELI PRESS' much-loved One Picture Book series of artists’ books. Each title is limited to 500 numbered copies, and includes a removable, signed, original print measuring approximately 5x7 inches. The books are slightly larger than those in the original series, with a fresh design and upgraded materials.
