JEFF WALL: VANCOUVER ART GALLERY COLLECTION by Jeff Wall

カナダ人アーティスト、ジェフ・ウォール（Jeff Wall）の作品集。2008年10月から2009年1月にかけてカナダの「バンクーバー美術館（Vancouver Art Gallery）」で開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。同展のキュレーションはカナダ人の美術史家のグラント・アーノルド（Grant Arnold）が手がけている。

バンクーバー出身の写真家である作者は、強い訴求力を持つ写真作品によって国際的に高い評価を得ている。過去30年にわたり、コンセプチュアル・アートがもたらした挑戦や、1980年代から1990年代における表象をめぐるポストモダンの批判を経た後も、モダニズムの絵画的伝統が持つ重要性を示してきた。映画、写真、絵画の美学を取り入れながら、作者の作品は、写真によるイメージを現代美術における重要な領域として発展させるうえで大きな役割を果たしている。

本書は、作者の作品約40点をカラーで収録しており、「War Game」（2007年）、「Concrete Ball」（2002年）、「River Road」（1994年）、「The Pine on the Corner」（1990年）、「Children」（1988年）など、同館のパーマネントコレクションに収蔵されている作品を紹介する。

Vancouver artist Jeff Wall is internationally acclaimed for his compelling photography. Over the past 30 years he has asserted the importance of the pictorial traditions of Modernism in the wake of challenges presented by conceptual art and the postmodern critiques of representation from the 1980s and 90s. Drawing on the aesthetics of cinema, photography and painting, Wall’s work has played a key role in the development of photographic imagery as an important arena in contemporary art. This publication features nearly 40 colour reproductions of the artist’s work, including War Game (2007), Concrete Ball (2002), River Road (1994), The Pine on the Corner (1990) and Children (1988), all of which are in the Vancouver Art Gallery’s permanent collection.

Jeff Wall: Vancouver Art Gallery Collection was produced to accompany the artist’s first solo exhibition since 1990, organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery, curated by Grant Arnold and presented from October 25, 2008 to January 25, 2009.
