アメリカ人フォトグラファー、ロバート・アダムス（Robert Adams）による作品集。作者は長年にわたり西アメリカの風景を撮影し続けてきたが、本作は作者が所有する裏庭で1982年から1992年の間に撮影した32枚の写真で構成されている。50フィートに満たない聖域の中で小さな犬と飼い主が見出だす喜びを記録。序文は、犬の視点から見た楽園を韻律的に、あるいは感傷的な感覚を引き起こさせる受け答えや、創作した物語のあらすじのように描写されている。本作のテーマは「感謝」であり、また楽しさと同時に真面目さを、地元のような身近さとともに広さ、遠さといった相反するものが同居している。

Robert Adams has for many years photographed the western American landscape, but here brings together thirty-two pictures made in his own backyard. In them, he records the pleasures that a small dog and her human companions have found in a sanctuary less than fifty feet to a side. In his preface, the photographer gives us a metrical description of paradise from a dog's point of view, a reply to those who might charge sentimentality, and an outline for a creation story. The book is at once amusing and serious, local and far-reaching. It's theme is gratitude.
