イギリス人彫刻家、トニー・クラッグ（Tony Cragg）の作品集。作者の彫刻作品や紙に描いた作品を収めた包括的な一冊。2023年2月25日から5月19日まで、フロリダ、ベロ・ビーチの「ザ・ギャラリー・アット・ウィンザー（The Gallery at Windsor）」で開催された展示に伴い刊行された。

ロンドンの「サーペンタイン・ギャラリー（Serpentine Galleries）」のアーティスティック・ディレクターを務めるキュレーターのハンス・ウルリッヒ・オブリスト（Hans Ulrich Obrist）と作者の対談、美術史学者でキュレーターであるジョン・ウッド（Jon Wood）が詳細に論じたエッセイを収録。

作者は自然界と人工の世界の間にある複雑な関係を探り、革新的かつ特徴的な彫刻による言語を生み出した。自称「過激な物質主義者（radical materialist）」として、作者は物体の外面に現れ出る、物質の内部構造がもたらす影響に興味を惹かれてきた。イギリスにおけるランド・アートやパフォーマンス・アートから影響を受け出発点とした作者の作品は、自然の中に見受けられるマクロやミクロ構造、工業的な素材やプロセスへの関心がインスピレーションの元となっている。

作者は1988年に第43回ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレにイギリスの代表として参加、同年にイギリスの「テート（Tate）」が組織する現代美術のアーティストに授与する「ターナー賞」を受賞した。

‘Tony Cragg: Sculptures and Works on Paper’ is a comprehensive catalogue of a selection of Cragg’s sculptures and works on paper exhibited at The Gallery at Windsor in Vero Beach, Florida from 25 February – 19 May, 2023. The catalogue features an in-conversation between Tony Cragg and Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator and artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries in London, along with an in-depth essay by art historian and curator Jon Wood.

Tony Cragg was born 1949 in Liverpool, UK. He lives and works in Wuppertal, Germany.

“Tony Cragg has not only changed the way we see sculpture, but also the way we see and think about the material world more generally,” said Jon Wood.

The artist explores the complex relationships between the natural and man-made world to create an innovative, distinctive sculptural language. A self-described “radical materialist,” the artist is interested in the internal structures of material that result in their external appearance. Originally informed by British land art and performance art, his work is inspired by the macro and microstructures found in nature, as well as an engagement with industrial materials and processes.

Cragg represented Britain at the 43rd Venice Biennale in 1988, and the same year was awarded the Turner Prize at Tate in London.
