ニューヨーク発、2024年に創刊したファッション誌『ICE MAGAZINE』の第2号。「地球上で最もクールな雑誌」と謳う本誌は、2024年10月にドミニカ系アメリカ人フォトグラファー、ディレクターであるレネル・メドラノ（Renell Medrano）が拠点とするニューヨークを舞台に、あらゆる体型・サイズ・身長・爪の長さの女性たちを起用して話題を呼んだ創刊号に続き、再びこの第二号を携えて戻ってきた。本号でレネル・メドラノは、活気と情熱、魅力を放つ「Georgia Peaches（魅力的な人）」からインスピレーションを得た。新旧の顔ぶれが並び、ひたすらに自分らしい「アイス・ガール」の真髄を体現する。特に、パワフルなラッパーでありソングライターのEveほど、これを体現する者はいない。

着想についてレネル・メドラノは語る。「アトランタを選んだのは、南部との強い繋がりを感じるから。訪れるたび、あそこのエネルギーが故郷を思い出させてくれる。出会う人々に自然で生々しい美しさがある。『Ice Magazine』は私自身の延長であり、私が築いていく全てと共に成長していく。世界を見れば見るほど、『Ice Magazine』は私が行く先々で様々な女性やクリエイターを称えるプラットフォームとなる。ビジョンは私個人を超えたものだ。」

本書は、臆することなく、人を惹きつけ、完全に独自の存在としてありのままの自分を貫く女性を祝福する。レネル・メドラノは自身の「Players magazine」のコレクションから着想を得て、官能性の中に潜む美しさと優しさを探求する。歴史的に過剰に性的に描かれてきた黒人女性や有色人種の女性を、男性の目線から解放し、自身の性的な側面を心地よく受け入れられる場を創出することをレネル・メドラノは目指す。特集に織り込まれる対話は内省的で、美の定義や女性のレジリエンスなどの主題を扱う。女性が眼差す女性。本書の真価は、レネル・メドラノがビジョンを具現化するために協同した女性たちにある。創刊号から再び登場するのは、メイクアップを担当するライサ・フラワーズ（Raisa Flowers）とスタイリングを担当するマリカ・エラ・エイムズ（Marika-Ella Ames）。本号ではヘアの担当としてアミダット・ギワ（Amidat Giwa）を迎えることで、女性だけのクルーが完成した。

レネル・メドラノと「Ice Studios」について
レネル・メドラノはニューヨーク州ブロンクス出身のドミニカ系アメリカ人写真家であり、ディレクター。ニューヨーク市と母国ドミニカ共和国から着想を得て、被写体の内なる脆弱性を見出すことに焦点を当てた作品を手掛ける。レネル・メドラノによる写真は、『Vogue』『Elle』『Harper’s Bazaar』『CQ』『CR Men』『W』など数十の出版物に掲載されている。「Ice Studios」は、メドラノが設立したクリエイティブな場であり、制作・クリエイティブな実践・ビジュアル・カプセルコレクションを包括するプラットフォームとして機能している。

NEW YORK, NY in 2025) the latest release, Renell Medrano’s Ice Magazine Vol. 2. “The coldest magazine on Earth” returns after their major debut last October that cast women of every body shape, size, height, and nail length on Medrano’s home turf, New York City. For this issue, she finds inspiration from the Georgia Peaches that radiate hustle, drive, and charm. We see new and familiar faces side by side, embracing what it means to be an Ice Girl – relentlessly herself, and nobody embodies this more than featured powerhouse rapper and songwriter, Eve.

On her sources of inspiration Renell comments, “I picked Atlanta because I feel a strong connection to the South. Every time I visit, the energy down there reminds me of home. There's a natural and raw beauty to everyone I meet. I see Ice Magazine as an extension of myself that will grow in tandem with everything I am building. As I see more of the world, Ice Magazine will be a platform to highlight different types of women and creatives wherever I go. The vision is bigger than just me.”

Ice Magazine is devoted to celebrating the around-the-way girl: unapologetic, magnetic, and entirely her own. Inspired by her collection of Players magazine, Renell explores the beauty and softness in sensuality. Historically, Black women and women of color have been oversexualized, and part of Medrano’s objective is to create a space where these women are comfortable embracing their sexual side devoid of the male gaze. The conversations weaved throughout the editorials are introspective, speaking to topics such as definitions of beauty and female resilience. Women seeing women. The power of Ice Magazine lies in the female collaborators Renell chooses to bring the full vision to life. Collaborators from Volume 1 return including the illustrious Raisa Flowers on makeup and styling by Marika-Ella Ames. Volume 2 brings in the talented Amidat Giwa on hair, rounding out the all-women crew.

Renell Medrano is a Dominican-American photographer and director from The Bronx, New York, whose work focuses on finding vulnerability in her subjects, drawing inspiration from New York City and her motherland of the Dominican Republic. Her commercial fashion photography has been published in dozens of publications such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, CQ, CR Men, and W. Ice Studios is a creative domain, founded by Medrano to serve as a platform that encompasses production and creative work, visuals, and capsule clothing.
