ニューヨークを拠点に活動するアメリカ人フォトグラファー、アーロン・スターン（Aaron Stern）とイギリス人写真家、ルーシー・ヘルトン（Lucy Helton）による作品集。

2020年の春、新型コロナウイルス感染症による世界的な閉鎖の中、二者は隔離による孤立を乗り越えようと試みるべく、感熱ファックス機による画像の交換を通じてバーチャル会話を交わすようになった。

2020年から2021年にかけて続いたパンデミックの期間は、隔絶と喪失、残酷なまでの権力の誇示、抗議を通じて問われた不当性、不穏なまでのデジタルの実態のなさが顕著に現れていた。世界的な混乱に見舞われた奇妙な2年間であったが、二人は他の作家たちにファックスで作品を送付するように呼びかけ始めた。本作は、結果20人の作家から集めることができた作品140点を収録している。

ファックスの伝送によって、そこにはエラー、静止的、グリッチが発生し、イメージはもっともベーシックで原始的な形へと変わった。元の画像は多種多様でありながら、感熱紙のプリントとして変換、伝送、再構成されることで、驚くべき方法で統一されたのである。孤立している時世に、繋がりたいという衝動から始まったこのプロジェクトが、思いがけず、我々の相互のつながりを視覚的に表現することとなった。

In the spring of 2020, while experiencing the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic and global shutdown, Aaron Stern and Lucy Helton began exchanging images via a thermal fax machine in an attempt to navigate isolation by engaging in virtual conversation.

As the pandemic continued throughout 2020 and into 2021 – two strange years marked by separation and loss, brutal displays of power, injustices challenged by protest, and disturbing digital disembodiment – they began inviting other artists to submit work to the fax machine.

OK, NO RESPONSE presents 140 of the resulting facsimiles drawn from the work of twenty contributing artists. The transmission of these photographs reduced them to their most basic forms, introducing errors, static, and random glitches. While the source images were varied and diverse, their translation, transmission, and recomposition as thermal prints on paper unified them in surprising ways. What began as an impulse to connect during a time of isolation became an unexpected visual manifestation of our interconnectedness.
