アルゼンチン人ビジュアルアーティストであり編集者、研究者であるマルティン・ボッラーティ（Martín Bollati）の作品集。作者は、本書を刊行したアルゼンチンの出版社「SED EDITORIAL」の主宰でもある。

本書は、ユネスコによって採択された世界遺産の公式アーカイブに登録されている写真の断片が人工知能（AI）を介して合わさることで生まれた、考古学的オブジェによる架空のコレクションである。

999点のイメージで構成されたこの「百科事典」は、本来出会うことのなかったはずの古代文明同士の交わりを画像上で可能とし、片方の断片がもう一方に及ぼしていたかもしれない潜在的な影響について推測させる情報を生み出す。また、人工知能による合成イメージが向かう未来において、我々の記憶がどのような位置を占めるのか、そして我々が記憶を呼び起こす際にどのようにイメージとの関係を築きうるかという疑問も鑑賞者に投げかけている。

本書の冒頭で、今日サイバー攻撃が戦争の一形態として考えられていること、イリナ・ボコバ（Irina Bokova）ユネスコ事務局長が「文化浄化」と定義したデジタル遺産へのサイバー攻撃とAIによる遺産の改変の脅威について触れている。本書は、昨今のこのような危険性についても作品をもって仄めかしているのであろう。

Hermes/Unesco is an imaginary collection of archaeological objects that arise from the collision mediated by artificial intelligence of photographs pieces belonging to an official world heritage archive designated by UNESCO.

This encyclopedia of 999 images gives rise to the speculative network of possible crossings between ancient civilizations that did not meet and the potential influence that one could have had on the other. It also opens questions about what place our memory will occupy in the future of synthetic images and what possible mnemonic relationship we will have with them.
