本書は、カナダ人シェフ、俳優、映画プロデューサーのマッティ・マセソン（Matty Matheson）による序文と共に、『ブレックファスト・クラブ（原題：The Breakfast Club）』の「ピクシースティック・サンドイッチ」、『アパートの鍵貸します（原題：The Apartment）』の「テニスラケット・スパゲティ」、『オデッセイ（原題：The Martian）』のバイコディン（鎮痛薬）入りベイクドポテト、『ホーム・アローン（原題：Home Alone）』の「12スクープ・アイスクリーム・サンデー」、『クレイマー、クレイマー（原題：Kramer vs. Kramer）』の「離婚した父親のフレンチトースト」など、54本の映画から抜粋した即興料理を紹介する。

写真はブルックリンを拠点とするアーティストユニット「Wade and Leta（ウェイド アンド レタ）」が担当する。
