1990年、東ベルリンで生じた激動のさなかに設立されたフォトグラファー・エージェンシー、オストクロイツ（OSTKREUZ）の作品集。2024年9月から2025年1月にかけてドイツの「C/Oベルリン（C/O Berlin）」で開催した展覧会に伴い刊行された。

オストクロイツに所属する9人のフォトグラファーに焦点を当て、ドイツ人フォトグラファー、アネッテ・ハウスキルト（Annette Hauschild）および「C/Oベルリン」キュレーター、ボアズ・レヴィン（Boaz Levin）のキュレーションのもと、現在の視点から自身の膨大なアーカイヴをあらためて見つめ直す。

フォトジャーナリズムの最盛期に活動したドキュメンタリストとして、同集団は都市が経験した変化を追った。かつて壁によって分断されていた都市が再び一体となっていく過程で生じた社会の移行や課題を観察し、それらを力強く個人的なイメージとして記録している。

収録されたエッセイもまた、複数の視点からこの変化を捉える。ルーマニア人写真史研究者、ヤーノシュ・フレコット（Janos Frecot）は都市空間の変容を検証し、ドイツ人文化批評家、イェンス・バルツァー（Jens Balzer）は創造性と文化の中心地としてのベルリンの可能性を論じる。さらにドイツ人作家、アンネ・ラーベ（Anne Rabe）は、今日のベルリンをめぐるきわめて個人的な視点を提示している。

The OSTKREUZ agency was founded in the midst of the upheavals that took place in East Berlin in 1990.

For Dream on – Berlin, the 90s, nine OSTKREUZ photographers worked together with curators Annette Hauschild (OSTKREUZ) and Boaz Levin (C/O Berlin Foundation) to cast a modern-day eye over their extensive archives from today’s perspective.

As documentarists operating at the apogee of photojournalism, they tracked the changes the city underwent. They observed the shifts in society and the challenges facing a city that had previously been divided by a wall as it gradually grew back together, capturing these developments in powerful, personal images.

The accompanying essays reflect on these transformations from different angles: Janos Frecot examines the changes in urban space; Jens Balzer describes Berlin’s potential as a centre of creativity and culture; and Anne Rabe offers a highly personal perspective, as a young East German writer, on Berlin today.
