アメリカ人アーティスト、ナンシー・ホルト（Nancy Holt）の作品集。2022年10月から2023年1月にかけてロサンゼルスの「Sprüth Magers」にて開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。

作者は、アートとは何になれるのか、アートはどこにあるのかを改めて問い直したアーティストである。50年間にわたり作者は知覚に関する慎重な解釈を展開し、知っていると思い込んでいる物事を超えて視るよう我々に求め続けた。

本書は作者の作品群を通して、この惑星、地球の表面における我々人間の居場所を理解しようと我々が用いる構造に対する作者の研究に特に注目した。1966年から2014年まで続いた豊かな芸術活動に触れながら、言語や音声、場所、光、建造環境のインフラストラクチャーを用いたその実験を観察する。

作者は、一度立ち止まり、観察し、我々を取り巻く世界に抱く憶測を形作る構造を考え直してくれ、と呼びかけている。「何が見える？（what do you see?）」という単純な質問を問い続けているのだ。

作家でありキュレーターのローラ・マクリーン＝フェリス（Laura McLean-Ferris）による2012年に実施されたインタビューを収録。

This publication takes a journey through Holt’s work, paying particular attention to her investigations into the structures that we humans use as we attempt to understand our place on the surface of our planet.

Touching on a rich artistic practice that spanned from 1966 to 2014, the catalogue looks at her experiments with language, audio, location, light, and infrastructures of the built environment.

Holt issues a call to pause, observe, and rethink structures forming our assumptions of the surrounding world. She repeatedly asks a simple question: what do you see?
