イギリス人建築家、デイビッド・チッパーフィールド（David Chipperfield）が主宰する建築事務所「デイビッド・チッパーフィールド・アーキテクツ（David Chipperfield Architects）」の作品集。本書は、同事務所による40年の活動を記念して制作された一冊であり、約100点の作品を豊富な図版で紹介するとともに、エッセイや評論、そしてカンディダ・ヘーファー（Candida Höfer）やトーマス・シュトゥルート（Thomas Struth）、フリーデリケ・フォン・ローチ（Friederike von Rauch）らアーティストの寄稿を交えて編纂されている。2巻構成でまとめられている本書は、完成した建築作品と実現しなかった建築作品のいずれにおいても網羅している。「プリツカー賞」の名誉を受けたデイビッド・チッパーフィールドが率いてきた多くの活動に、そのキャリアを通じて光を当てている。

100点にものぼるデザインには、建築史家であるジョーゼフ・リクワート（Joseph Rykwert）やキュレーターであるバリー・バーグドール（Barry Bergdoll）をはじめとする様々な研究者や評論家によって長年発表されてきた10編の批評エッセイと一連の記事が添えられている。1巻では1985年から2014年、 2巻では2015年2024年の記録を収録する。

本書は、同事務所のシニア・ディレクターであるリック・ネイス（Rik Nys）が編集を担当。装丁は2013年と2018年にも「デイヴィッド・チッパーフィールド・アーキテクツ」の作品集を制作した、イギリス・ロンドンを拠点とするグラフィックデザインスタジオ「ジョン・モーガン・スタジオ（John Morgan studio）」が手がけている。

This new monograph celebrates 40 years of practice by David Chipperfield Architects, presenting around 100 design entries, richly illustrated and accompanied by critical essays and a series of articles and including contributions by artists including Candida Höfer and Thomas Struth. In double-volume format, this monograph covers a cross section of both built and unbuilt work. It highlights several activities led by Pritzker Prize Laureate, Sir David Chipperfield, throughout his career. Around 100 design entries are accompanied by ten critical essays and a series of articles that have been published over the years by various commentators including Joseph Rykwert and Barry Bergdoll. Richly illustrated, both volumes feature contributions by renowned visual artists including Candida Höfer, Thomas Struth and Friederike von Rauch. The monograph is edited by Rik Nys and designed by John Morgan Studio, the same team that produced the David Chipperfield Architects monographs in 2013 and 2018.
