デンマーク人アーティスト、ヴィルヘルム・ハマスホイ（Vilhelm Hammershøi）の作品集。ギャラリー「Hauser & Wirth」がスイス・バーゼルにオープンした新たなスペースの柿落として2024年6月から7月にかけて開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。作者にとって、スイスでの個展は初めての開催となる。

19世紀デンマークの巨匠とも称される作者の絵画は、大画家（Old Master）たちの芸術と現代美術との架け橋になるような存在である。その極めてモダニズム的である感性は、過去20年の間、ロンドンから東京まで、多くの国々で国際的な回顧展などの展覧会が開催されており、世界中の人々の想像力を掻き立て続けている。

本展では、極めて個性が強く出ている作者の芸術言語を深く理解できる構成となっている。展覧された18点はすべて個人蔵のものであり、これまでほとんど展示されてこなかったものも含まれる。

世に非常によく知られている室内画をはじめ、農場の風景、街並み、また貴重な自画像作品が一堂に会し、その活動の幅の広さと奥深さを見ることができる。静謐でありながら革新的な独創性も持つ作品群は、後に現れる現代美術の巨匠たちにとって力強い先駆者として作者を位置付けるものである。本展のキュレーターであり、ハマスホイ研究の第一人者である美術史家のフェリックス・クレマー（Felix Krämer）と、同じく美術史家であり「1913: 20世紀の夏の季節（英題：1913: The Year Before the Storm）」、「Love in a Time of Hate: Art and Passion in the Shadow of War, 1929-39」「The Magic of Silence」などのベストセラー作家として知られるフローリアン・イリエス（Florian Illies）によるエッセイを収録しており、この画家を知る上で欠かせない資料となっている。
