イギリスのマン島出身フォトグラファー、クリス・キリップ（Chris Killip）の作品集。作者は同時代のイギリス人フォトグラファーの中で強い影響力を持つ作家の一人であり、1970年代から1980年代にかけてイングランド北東部で人物や風景を撮影したモノクロ写真作品で知られる。本書は、「中世と20世紀が交錯する」と作者が表現したラインマス（Lynemouth）のコミュニティを記録した名作『シーコール（Seacoal）』シリーズに焦点を当てている。

『TATE PHOTOGRAPHY』は、イギリス政府が所有するイギリス美術コレクションや近現代美術コレクションを所蔵・管理する組織「テート（TATE）」が持つ写真作品を紹介するシリーズであり、その作家陣は世界で最も重要な写真家とされる面々が名を連ねる。各作品集には、セレクトされた一連の写真作品シリーズと、各作家の紹介や活動、対談などが収録されている。

本作を含む第二シリーズは「生態と環境（Ecology and Environment）」をテーマに企画されている。

Chris Killip (1946–2020) was one of the most influential British photographers of his generation. He is best known for his black and white images of people and places, especially in the North East of England in the 1970s and 1980s.

This volume focuses on his remarkable Seacoal series, documenting a community at Lynemouth, where, as he put it, ‘the Middle Ages and the twentieth century intertwined’.

The Tate Photography Series is a celebration of photography by artists in the Tate collection, presenting the work of some of the most significant photographers in the world today. Each book features a specially selected sequence of images alongside an introduction and a conversation with or about each photographer’s practice. The unifying theme for this second group of titles in the series is Ecology and Environment.
