イギリスの出版社「IDEA」による、生花にフィーチャーして制作された罫線入りノート。アメリカに渡り、龍生派のいけばなや、日本の伝統文化などを伝えてきた佐藤昌三によるいけばなから着想を得ており、作品イメージを15点収録している。

本書はノートであり、創作帳である。1960年代に佐藤が自身の作品を撮影したものが掲載されており、他は白紙もしくは罫線が引かれたページで構成されている。佐藤のイメージは優美で素晴らしいものであるが、ノートの使用者が更なる創作を加える余白はたっぷりとある。いけばなのイメージは元々1965年刊行の佐藤の著作『The Art of Arranging Flowers: A Complete Guide to Japanese Ikebana』に掲載されていたものであるが、赤いチューリップやライラックの花は、「IDEA」の Instagram アカウント創設初期に最も「いいね」を集めた画像の一つである。

IKEBANA – AN IDEA BOOK is a note book, creative day work book. Unusually for IDEA, this book of Mr Shozo Sato’s 1960’s photographs of his own ikebana arrangements has mostly blank or lined pages. The illustrations are exquisite but there is plentiful room for further creativity. Originally published in Mr Sato’s 1965 classic book The Art of Arranging Flowers, the image of red tulips and lilac blossoms was one of the most liked images in the early years of IDEA on Instagram. The agapanthus sits to the right of the lined page.
