日本人写真家、須田一政の作品集。本書は、1991年、聖夜（クリスマス・イブ）に、作者が東京で撮影した写真を収録している。

クリスマスにイエス・キリストに想いを馳せる日本人はどれだけいるだろう。
とりあえずイヴはケーキを買って家庭にかえる、
恋人達は一年で一番ロマンチックな時間を過ごす、
こんな習慣が当たり前になっている。
「バカヤロー、クリスチャンでもあるまいし」
なんて急に仏教徒ぶってみたところでなんだか空しい。
日本にとってクリスマスは「愛」という信仰を確かめる日なのだ。
本来、愛情表現が不器用な国民にとって、これは一種の受難である。
花束を差し出す仕種も西欧のそれとはほど遠い。
受けとる方もうつペコッ頭をさげたりして、会ったとたんにギクシャクしちゃう。
日本人が一番ダサく見えるのは、クリスマスイブなのかもしれない。
そしてこのぎこちなさとともに、人はビルの間の闇に吸い込まれていく・・・
