旧東ドイツ（GDR）を代表するコンピューター産業を象徴する「ロボトロン（Robotron）」を通して、芸術作品や資料、対話を通して技術と社会、政治、経済の交錯を読み解く作品集。2025年10月から2026年2月にかけて「ライプツィヒ現代アート美術館（GfZK Museum of Contemporary Art Leipzig）」で開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。

1960年代以降、コンピューターとマイクロエレクトロニクスの急速な発展は、しばしば「第三次産業革命」と称されてきた。旧東ドイツでは、とりわけ「ロボトロン」の名が、コンピュータとマイクロエレクトロニクスが切り拓いた新しい技術時代の象徴となり、その技術は経済のほぼあらゆる分野へと浸透していった。旧東ドイツのコンピューター産業を支えた国営企業連合「ロボトロン・コンビナート（Kombinat Robotron）」の歴史を振り返ると、技術的な可能性と社会的な希望とがそこに凝縮されていることが見えてくる。

本書は、対話、資料、芸術作品、そして地政学、計画経済、世界市場の関係をめぐる考察をモンタージュのように構成しながら、旧東ドイツ国家の産業発展を検証する。その過程で、「社会主義」の過去をめぐる語りのなかで定着してきた通念に疑問を投げかけるとともに、最終的に東ドイツの破綻へとつながった政治的・経済的矛盾を明らかにする。

The rapid advance of computers and microelectronics since the 1960s is often described as the “third industrial revolution.” In the GDR, the name Robotron in particular stood for this new technology, which extended into virtually every sector of the economy. Looking back at the history of the combine, technological possibilities and social aspirations converge.

Through a montage of conversations, documents, artistic works, and reflections on the relationship between geopolitics, the planned economy, and the global market, the book examines the industrial development of the East German state. In doing so, it challenges conventional notions that have become entrenched in narratives of a “socialist” past and sheds light on the political and economic contradictions that ultimately led to the collapse of the GDR.
