グアダラハラを拠点に活動するメキシコ人建築家でありアーティストのホセ・ダヴィラ（Jose Dávila）による作品集。2014年9月から10月にかけてロンドンのギャラリー「Max Wigram Gallery」で開催された展覧会に伴い刊行された。

建築を学び、独学で美術史を学んだ作者は、建築とアートの中間的な位置づけにある、厳格かつ彫刻的なインスタレーションで知られている。作者は、メキシコを代表する建築家であり都市計画家のルイス・バラガン（Luis Barragán）やアメリカ人アーティストのドナルド・ジャッド（Donald Judd）、ドイツ人アーティストのヨゼフ・アルバース（Josef Albers）などの20世紀を代表する前衛芸術家を考察し、オマージュ、模倣、批評の境界で活動する。幻影のように、作者はさまざまな再現方法を用いて、フォルムと内容の関係を解体し、参照する作品の美点と欠点を実証している。作者の現在進行中のシリーズ「Homage to the Square」では、ヨゼフ・アルバースが様々な色調や大きさの正方形を重ねて描いた同名の連作が、三次元的空間において再解釈されている。隣り合う色の相互作用について考察したアルバースに対し、作者の作品は、正方形とその色彩を形と影の探求として提示し、アルバースの探求を彫刻の追求という形で再解釈している。本書は、布製の表紙に、作者の作品に見られるネガティブスペースをイメージした四角い型抜きが施されている。

‘Daylight Found Me With No Answer’ is an exhibition of new works by Mexican artist Jose Dávila at Max Wigram Gallery. Trained in architecture and a self-taught historian, Dávila is known for austere, sculptural installations that occupy a fruitful middle ground between architecture and art. Considering the 20th-century avant-gardes, he operates at the limits of homage, imitation, and critique. Like a kind of mirage, he uses different reproduction strategies to dismantle the relationship between form and content, as well as manifest the virtues and defects of his references. This overview features a clothbound cover with die-cut squares that reference the negative spaces in his work.
