イギリス人アーティスト、映像作家であるスチュアート・クロフト（Stuart Croft）の作品集。本書は2015年に惜しまれつつもこの世を去った作者に光を当てて制作された初の作品集であり、1998年から2014年にかけて手がけられた17点の映像作品を紹介する。作者の作品は、ギャラリーと映画との間に生まれる対話を形にし、再現、権力、欲望という主題を研究すべく、脚本、演技、映画撮影技術というツールを用いてきた。

小説家であり詩人、劇作家のデボラ・レヴィ（Deborah Levy）と精神分析医であるダリアン・リーダー（Darian Leader）による寄稿文に加え、作者が初めて執筆し発表したレクチャーも収録、自身の実践において重要なコンセプトや、文章、制作過程が紹介されている。本書は「スチュアート・クロフト財団（Stuart Croft Foundation）」と出版社の協力のもと刊行された一冊であり、アーティストのエマ・ベネット（Emma Bennett）が編集を手がけている。

This is the first monograph to focus on the influential artist-filmmaker Stuart Croft (1970–2015). It includes a catalogue the 17 moving-image artworks which the artist made between 1998 and 2014. Croft’s work formed a dialogue between the gallery and the cinema, and he used the tools of script-writing, acting and cinematography to investigate the subjects of recurrence, power and desire.

Original texts by Deborah Levy and Darian Leader are included, along with lectures that were first written and presented by Croft to illustrate the key concepts of his practice and his writing and production processes. ‘Stuart Croft Returns’ has been produced by The Everyday Press in collaboration with the Stuart Croft Foundation. The book has been edited by Emma Bennett and designed by Margherita Sabbioneda.
