DAWN / STORM by Sabine Moritz

The first volume of this beautifully designed two-part publication presents her newest series, Storm arising from a longing for nature. The second volume, Dawn contains new pictures and drawings in which apparently unrelated motives such as lab rooms, ships and dogs are combined with the artists first, abstract works. Sabine Moritz’s work explores themes of memory, belonging and repetition, often focusing on her own experience growing up East Germany under the Soviet regime. This exhibition, held at Galerie Marian Goodman, Paris, presented a selection of Moritz’s oil paintings alongside her first abstract works, and a series of works on paper. Within many of these, she revisits the same scene or composition, reflecting on subtle changes in composition, atmosphere and lighting.
