先史時代から現代に至るまでの資料や記録を蒐集するAMCから発行される「Amc2 journal」シリーズ。写真を中核とした幅広いテーマを扱う膨大なコレクションの中からイメージを編集し絡み合わせることで、思い掛けないような世界の本質が浮かび上がってくる。Issue 5では、彼らのコレクションの一部であるイギリスのリゾート地から送られたポストカード群でまとめられている。イギリスの東海岸沿いのリゾート地から友人や家族宛に綴った文章を添えて送られたそれらのポストカードは土地の場所柄や出来事などを映すと同時に、送った人の心情や性格が表れている。世代を超えて残されたこれらの記録には、彼らにとってのイギリスの海辺にまつわる思い出が込められている。最近ではホリデー中に送られるポストカードといえばスペインや東南アジアのリゾートから送られることが多くなったが、2013年の「Rough Guide Travel Hot List」が発表した世界の観光地トップ10の中でイギリス・ケント州のマーゲイトが挙げられたように、イギリス人にとって特別な場所として今でも心に残り続けている。Format Festival 2013でのAMCによる企画展「Notes Home」に併せて出版された。

Published to coincide with Notes Home, an exhibition curated by the Archive of Modern Conflict's Timothy Prus and Ed Jones for Format Festival 2013, Amc2 Journal Issue 5 features picture postcards from the Archive's permanent collection and has been published in two editions – the Standard Edition (now sold out) and the Special Edition which includes an original postcard in the back of the magazine. The postcards, all sent from resorts on England's east coast, perform the dual function of allowing us to visualise the places and events they record and providing us with insights into the emotional and cultural temperaments of those who sent them. Texts on the reverse sides of the cards report events to friends and families back home in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester in much the same way as our emails would do today. These records of many ordinary family holidays encapsulate the collective memories of English seaside locations that have come down to us through the generations. Postcards received from British holidaymakers today are more likely to feature one of the Spanish Costas or a resort in south-east Asia, but the fact that 2013's Rough Guide Travel Hot List includes Kent’s Margate as one of the world top 10 destinations reminds us that the resorts of the east coast continue to function and will also continue to hold a special place in our hearts and minds.
