スイスの「バレンベルク野外博物館（Ballenberg, Swiss Open-Air Museum）」を紹介する作品集。本書は同地の素朴な環境に着想を得て、物質的な世界をあらためて見つめ直すことを促す一冊である。「バレンベルク」はスイス・アルプスのベルン高地に位置する野外博物館であり、1978年にスイス唯一の野外民俗博物館として開館した。14世紀から19世紀にかけて建てられた各地の農家建築が集められ、ひとつの村のようないでたちを持つが、スイス各地の地方ごとに分類されている。ほぼスイス全州の建物が移築されているため、建築博物館のようにその特色や多様性を見ることができる。

本書は、「ヴィトラ（Vitra）」の名誉会長であり長年同社を牽引してきたロルフ・フェールバウム（Rolf Fehlbaum）の編集により、デザイナーのジャスパー・モリソン（Jasper Morrison）、建築家のデイヴィッド・サイク（David Saik）、田根剛（Tsuyoshi Tane）、フェデリカ・ザンコ（Federica Zanco）が「バレンベルク」を訪れた旅をもとに構成されている。

This book, edited by the entrepreneur and long-time driving force behind Vitra, Rolf Fehlbaum, is the result of a trip undertaken to Ballenberg by designers Jasper Morrison and architects David Saik, Tsuyoshi Tane and Federica Zanco.
