1874年、ルートヴィッヒ・レイモンド・ポールセン（Ludvig Raymond Poulsen）によってデンマークで創設された「ルイスポールセン」は、当時はまだ照明ブランドではなく、ワインの輸入業を行っていた。のちに「近代照明の父」と呼ばれるデザイナーのポール・ヘニングセン（Poul Henningsen）がPHシリーズなどをデザインしたことでブランドは大きく変貌し、以降、アルネ・ヤコブセン（Arne Jacobsen）から「ネンド（nendo）」、オラファー・エリアソン（Olafur Eliasson）まで、世界で最も才能あふれるデザイナーやアーティスト陣との協働を重ねながら成長を遂げた。

本書は、同社の豊かな歴史とアーカイブを掘り下げることで、何世代にもわたり発展してきたブランドの魅力的な物語を辿り、世界で最も唯一無二の存在感を放つ照明デザインハウスの一つである同社を包括的に魅せる一冊となっている。

ヴェルナー・パントン（Verner Panton）やアルネ・ヤコブセンといったミッドセンチュリーデザインを築いた重鎮とも呼べるデザイナーたちから、「ガムフラテージ（GAMFRATESI）」といった現在活躍する最もクリエイティブな現代美術家やデザイナー陣によるデザインまで、本書を通して多くの人物が紹介されている。

Featured throughout the book are designs by heavyweight mid-century designers, such as Verner Panton and Arne Jacobsen, as well as some of the most creative contemporary designers working today including GamFratesi and Olafur Eliasson.
