Expansive, technical, submerged, the book threads together some of architecture’s most singular minds, crossing decades, archives, disciplines, and countries, and placing multiple generations of architects side by side in a single volume. What started as a takeover of the magazine’s architecture section has now become something else entirely: a portrait of the studio itself, their own obsessions surfacing across every conversation—questions of scale, ambiguity, hedonism, bathrooms, dances, the house as a laboratory. As they open these interviews to the anthology, the architects unfold a series of choices in houses and homes that are deeply personal to those who conceived them, united by their fundamental questioning of universal needs answered by universal forms. What ties these houses together is something beyond architecture—less about having built them, and more about having gone on living inside the questions they raised.
