RIVER, ITS SHADOW OF SHADOWS by Jun Morinaga [RARE]

A photobook by a Japanese photographer, Jun Morinaga. Morinaga’s iconic images of derelict, dirty ditches of Tokyo were taken during the years of rapid economic growth in the early sixties. For 18 months, he focused exclusively on the surface of rivers and floating rubbish, stagnant mud, decayed and decomposing matter and all manner of crusty, bubbly things. Including essays by his mentor, W. Eugene Smith as well as Miyabi Ichikawa, Seigow Matsuoka, and the photographer himself, titled “Light is matter, work and spirit.” Book design by Kohei Sugiura.

Most importantly, this book has a message. Jun Morinaga has created a musical composition of a very futuristic drama about the end of humanity. Listen, and you will hear a quiet tune. - Robert Frank

Jun Morinaga’s River, its shadow of shadows has absolutely blown my mind. His photographs are beautiful and evoke a multitude of different impressions every time you look at them. He must have worked hard to create such a perfect photobook. - Peter McGill(PACE/McGILL GALLERY)
